Orbost
with a population of some 3,000, is situated in the geographic
centre of the East Gippsland Shire, one of the largest shires in
Victoria.
It is a
very diverse area with a strong primary production industry centred
on the Snowy River alluvial flats, reputed to be amongst the most
fertile in the world.
Victoria's most
productive forest area makes it the timber production centre of the
state. Orbost and district is blessed with natural resources and
has expectations of economic development and prosperity for the new
millenium
